Virtual Therapy: Convenient, Accessible Support from Rural Alaska
I currently practice from my yurt office in rural Alaska, and at this time I offer virtual therapy services, rather than the traditional in person office visit.
Telehealth allows us to have real-time video sessions that you can attend from anywhere with a computer or smartphone. While I know that some people still prefer in-person therapy—and I completely understand why—virtual sessions can be just as effective when approached thoughtfully. If you’re a busy parent or employee, live in a rural or remote area, or simply prefer the flexibility of connecting from your own space, telehealth may be a great option for you.
To make the most out of telehealth, here are a few tips:
- Choose a quiet space: Find a private, comfortable spot where you can focus and won't be interrupted.
- Test your tech: Before our session, check that your camera and microphone are working well, and that you have a reliable internet connection.
- Set yourself up for success: Have any materials or notes you want to discuss handy, and try to be in a place where you can fully engage without distractions.
Virtual therapy can provide the flexibility and accessibility you need, and can provide the confident privacy of a therapist outside of your area. If you're curious about how telehealth works or have any questions, I’m here to help and see if it’s a good fit for you.
